Caterpillars Day 25 - Time to set them free!

Here is the final update of how the caterpillars have changed during their life cycle.

All of the Painted Lady butterflies emerged over half term and spent a few days drying their wings in the butterfly house before we set them free.

The female butterflies will lay more eggs 5 - 7 days after emerging from the chrysalis and the eggs will hatch after about 3 days. Then the life cycle will begin again.

Caterpillars day 17

Now that all of the caterpillars are in their chrysalis it is time to move them and wait for their amazing transformation.

The fifth chrysalis fell to the bottom of the cup so it has been placed at the bottom of the butterfly house. When it emerges it will climb onto the side of the butterfly house where it will dry its wings ready to fly.
